MDF Cabinet Doors

Posted on: July 24, 2013

Do you need new cabinetry? Interested in a whole new kitchen design? If you haven’t considered MDF cabinet doors, you may want to. Jack Rosen Custom Kitchens offers high-quality cabinetry with wood drawer boxes and MDF doors.

What Is MDF?

MDF stands for medium-density fiberboard. It’s an engineered wood product made from broken down wood residuals, wax, and a resin binder. The panels are formed with high temperature and pressure. Denser than plywood and particleboard, MDF is strong and sturdy and is used by many cabinet manufacturers.

Benefits of MDF

Real wood is great, but MDF has its advantages too! There are many benefits of MDF:

  • It’s easy to clean
  • It doesn’t fade easily
  • The surface is very flat and smooth
  • It can easily be painted and varnished

Veneered MDF

You’ve undoubtedly heard of “wood veneer” related to cabinetry. In recent years, manufacturers have engineered better ways to achieve a high-quality finishing wrap to go over the MDF—referred to as wood veneer. Oak is the most common type of veneered MDF, but other materials can be used as well.

Fiberboard vs. Wood

Unlike wood, MDF doesn’t have that “natural” look—it doesn’t have knots or rings, which makes it more uniform than natural wood during cutting. MDF’s flat, smooth surface is ideal for veneering since there is no underlying grain.

MDF Cabinets in Kitchen Design

We offer some cabinetry with MDF doors but the traditional wood drawer boxes many people look for. The result is a high-quality, non-fade product that is easy to clean and will look great for a long time—and works well in any kitchen!
